Are they losing their touch?

Since the formation of Fall Out Boy in 2001 they have reached the height of some of the most influential bands in the world. They have been nominated for Grammys, appeared on various television shows, and have performed around the world. Their fan base continues to increase year after year with no stop in sight. With no potential downfall evident in the near future what could possibly stop this band? The answer to that question lies solely in their hands. If they stay true to their roots and the fans that have been with them since the beginning then they can continue their success for many years to come.

Unfortunately with the release of their last album “Folie à Deux” many of their common roots began to fade. Fall Out Boy is known for their rich lyrics, musical style, and unique vocals. Since the release of their first album we have been treated to lyrics such as “I got your love letters, corrected the grammar and sent them back. It's true romance is dead, I shot it in the chest then in the head.” As time goes on, and Fall Out Boy becomes more and more commercial, will we be treated to songs with meaning or songs written simply to get air time?

They claim that no matter how big they get they will stay true to their fans, themselves, and their friends but will the music industry let them? Recently Fall Out Boy has released a new single that ships with the “Believers Never Die Greatest Hits” Album its titled “Alpha Dog”. While the song is not terrible it is a prime example of Fall Out Boy losing touch. The song’s chorus is simply nonsense to say the least, and the supporting lyrics have little to no meaning.

I am not saying that they don’t need to conform to the times but they need to do so in a way that is not only respectful to the fans but conveys the classic Fall Out Boy style. If they continue to follow the style we have come to know and love then they should be in the clear for many years to come. What are your thoughts on Fall Out Boy? Leave a comment. Thank You.
